The Best Friends Cookbook-A Review

The Best Friends Cookbook-A Review

I’m sure most of you have heard of Best Friends in Kanab, Utah which is a no-kill shelter for animals, great and small. A visit there is on my bucket list. I’ve been a member of the sanctuary for many years. I love receiving their magazine which is read cover to cover many times, so when I saw they had The Best Friends Cookbook-Where Kindness Fills the Kitchen, I knew it had to join my many cookbooks.

Here’s my review of the book

It’s a study hardcover book with good quality paper and yes, it can even survive a few splashes here and there while you’re cooking.

A few things I love about it are-

Many of the pages have spaces where you can write your own notes after you’ve made the recipe, something I do anyway so it’s a nice feature.

I also like the added photos of the animals and volunteers.

The book is in color with some great graphics including photos of the finished dishes.

And now onto the recipes themselves.

All the recipes are vegan and it says it’s food that is served in the Sanctuary’s Angel Village café.

The first recipe I tried was the Chickpea Salad and it’s become my favorite go to lunch recipe when I want something easy to put together.

Three of my favorite main meal recipes are the ‘Cheeseburger’ penne, Thai Tempeh in Peanut Sauce and the Tamale Pie.

On my to try list are the Moussaka and Mushroom Stroganoff.

And it’s not just salads and main dishes but appetizers including my favorite hummus. Don’t forget rounding out the meal with goodies like Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. Make a couple of batches because they’ll disappear quickly.

It’s a Best Friends cookbook so we can’t leave out furbabies and there are four pet friendly recipes too.

It’s $29 and if you love animals and want to support a good cause, this is a must cookbook for your collection.
